What's Next for PeopleSoft: The 12 to 18 Month Investment Roadmap
Oracle's extension of PeopleSoft support through 2037 gave organizations something they had been asking for: a long, predictable horizon. With the 10-year rolling support window maintained, the more interesting question now is what Oracle plans to do with that time.
The answer, based on Oracle's 12 to 18 month roadmap, is a steady set of investments across both the underlying platform and the core applications. On the technology side, that includes security, search, lifecycle management, integration, configuration, generative AI, the Landing Page experience, and embedded analytics. On the application side, HCM, FSCM, and Campus Solutions each have their own planned enhancements. None of these are dramatic reinventions. They are practical improvements aimed at making PeopleSoft easier to run, safer to use, and better connected to everything around it.
Platform and technology
Security
Compliance and cybersecurity demands continue to grow, particularly for public sector organizations handling sensitive employee and financial data. Oracle is responding with several planned enhancements.
Time-sensitive one-time passwords are planned to strengthen user authentication. Landing Page security enhancements will give administrators more control over what users can access and see. Additional query security options will allow organizations to manage data access through roles and permissions with greater precision. For teams that have had to build workarounds to meet audit requirements, these changes could reduce both risk and effort.
Search
In large enterprise environments, finding the right information quickly matters. Oracle is planning semantic search, which helps users find results based on what they mean rather than the exact keywords they type. Search within facets will make it easier to narrow down large result sets, and improved typo tolerance will return accurate results even when queries aren't entered perfectly. These are small changes on paper, but they affect almost every user, every day.
Lifecycle management
Maintaining a PeopleSoft environment takes real effort, and Oracle continues to invest in reducing it. Container support is expected to bring more flexibility to deployment and infrastructure management. New customization grouping capabilities will help organizations organize and evaluate their custom changes, and continued improvements to Customization Insights will provide better visibility into technical debt and upgrade readiness.
For organizations carrying years of customizations, this is one of the more valuable areas on the roadmap. Understanding what you have customized, and why, is the first step toward simplifying upgrades.
Integration
PeopleSoft rarely operates on its own. Most organizations connect it to a range of other systems, and those connections need to work reliably. Webhook support is planned to simplify integration with external systems, and event-driven notifications will allow business processes to respond as things happen rather than on a schedule. Together, these capabilities will make it easier to fit PeopleSoft into a broader technology ecosystem.
Configuration tools
Oracle is continuing its push toward configuration over customization. A new capability for rich-text long fields aims to reduce the need for custom development, and administrators will be able to override input field prompts through configuration tools instead of code changes. The goal is more flexibility with less maintenance overhead, and fewer customizations to carry forward with every upgrade.
Generative AI
AI is becoming a larger part of the PeopleSoft roadmap. Code Assist in Application Designer is intended to help developers work more efficiently. Natural Language Assistant capabilities are planned to simplify how users interact with the platform. MCP Server support within PeopleTools will open up new opportunities for AI-enabled workflows and integrations, giving organizations a more standardized way to connect AI tools to PeopleSoft.
This is a notable step. Until now, most AI work around PeopleSoft has depended on custom builds and external architectures. Delivered capabilities in PeopleTools would lower the barrier considerably.
Landing Page
The modern Landing Page is steadily becoming the standard user experience across PeopleSoft. Campus Solutions is expected to see broader Landing Page adoption, and Cloud Manager will continue to align with the modern interface. Externally facing portals for suppliers, customers, and applicants are also planned to use the same experience.
That last point matters more than it might seem. External users are often the least familiar with PeopleSoft, so a consistent, intuitive interface can reduce support requests and make a better first impression.
Embedded Insights
Organizations increasingly expect analytics to be available where work actually happens, not in a separate reporting tool. Embedded Insights are planned for WorkCenters, surfacing operational information in context so users can see key metrics without leaving their workflows. Insights-driven actions are intended to help teams act on that information quickly and make better-informed decisions.
Applications
HCM
Oracle continues to invest in modernizing HR processes and the employee experience. Digital Badges are planned to help organizations recognize skills, achievements, and professional development. Manage Hires Modernization will streamline onboarding and hiring administration through a more modern user experience. Ongoing US Federal enhancements will also continue to address the evolving requirements of public sector organizations.
FSCM
Several planned enhancements focus on financial operations and compliance. Period Close Monitor capabilities are expected to provide greater visibility into close activities, helping finance teams track progress and spot bottlenecks earlier. New IRIS-compliant 1099 formats will support changing reporting requirements, and expanded voucher and expense amortization functionality will add flexibility to financial processing.
Campus Solutions
For higher education institutions, Oracle is investing in better connections between systems. Edu-API support for Grade Passback will simplify integration between learning platforms and student systems, and enhanced integration with Oracle Student Financial Aid will improve data flow between the two solutions. Additional Campus Solutions enhancements are planned to support evolving institutional needs.
More than a support date
Support through 2037 is only one part of Oracle's commitment to PeopleSoft. The roadmap shows continued investment in making the platform easier to manage, more intelligent, more secure, and better connected, while helping organizations improve productivity without disrupting the systems they already rely on.
For organizations planning their next few years, this is the time to look at which of these capabilities matter most and how to prepare for them. Spyre Solutions can help you assess your environment, prioritize what's coming, and build a plan that gets the most out of your PeopleSoft investment.
